RePost: Signs of a Lukewarm Worship Leader

December 3, 2008  |  DiscipLeadership, Worship

I think I’m now a third generation thief of this blog idea.  First from Chris at Swerve then from Carlos at Ragamuffin.  It’s a great concept that really deserves some thought by you as a worship leader or Christian.
A lukewarm worship leader:

  • Prays more on stage than off stage.
  • Is almost exclusively dependent on others songs to sing than writing songs for where their local church is at.
  • Cares more about how many songs he or she is leading than the overall shape of the service.
  • Is overly sensitive to criticism.
  • Is jealous or critical of someone else that God is blessing.
  • Spends little if any time in the Word preparing to lead His Church.
  • Sings more songs on stage than in personal worship.
  • Spends more time mimicking other worship leaders then being shaped into the worship leader they we made to be.
  • Says things on stage that his or her family NEVER hear them say off stage.
  • Personal quiet time is 2 hours at a local coffee shop surfing the web, updating blog.
  • Listens more for the right melody than the voice of God during worship.

Can you think of more?

  1. like your list. disagree with this one;

“Is almost exclusively dependent on others songs to sing than writing songs for where their local church is at.”

Some people don’t have the gift of writing great congregational songs. I don’t believe that “writing great songs” is specifically the calling of a godly worship leader. It actually may be the complete reverse..

    A godly worship leader…
“focuses less on who wrote the song and more on the truth behind it and its place in the service.”

To often to worship leaders do their own songs as a substitute for a great song that is “popular” and would help the people to connect more during the service…

    just some thoughts.

  2. i completely agree…i merely copied and pasted the list….some good some bad….i guess it just depends on your callings and your giftings
