For the 1st time ever, I’m putting a monsterous effort into songwriting. I’ve felt, for some time now, the calling on my life to write for my church but have not made time for it. So I called a few guys and we decided to just go do it. We are escaping to the wild town of Dora, Oklahoma. A friend and fellow musician has offered to let us use his relatives ranch house. From what I’ve heard it’s a cozy place with a huge living room, the house sits in the middle of 30 acres of beautiful Arkansas/Oklahoma scenery. Myself and 4 other guys are leaving in just a few hours.
I started praying about this retreat 2 weeks ago and God really put 2 things on my heart.
- Focus – our goal is to write 10 songs in 24 hours, with lyrics, melodies, and chord structures.
- Leadership – I’ve asked each of the guys coming to have a devotion ready to share. I really felt like God wanted the spiritual leadership to be spread out among all those involved
So at 5:30pm we leave and tomorrow at 5:30pm we come back. 24 hours, 10 songs.
Pray for us.
I’m in one of those crazy seasons where there is so much going on that I don’t know where I am sometimes. At night my mind races and my body twist and turns. Several times last night my wife kicked me, I’m sure. Don’t take this the wrong way, I am loving being busy doing stuff for God’s kingdom. I just want to know where to put “it”? The “it” I’m referring to is the stress. I’ve typically been good at disconnecting from work, ministry, people or whatever to go home and enjoy time with my family….but not so much recently.
Anyone got some solid tips on where to put “it”? Looking for input here.
Are you tired of reading about how we are destoying our environment? How the whole world is coming to an end? Tired of seeing Al Gore’s chubby face on tv acting like he knows something? We are living in a time were there is so much knowledge that if you have a loud enough voice people will follow. Even if you have no qualifications in the subject. i.e. Al Gore.
Being Green has become a social trend. Big brand companies, celebrities, our local, state, and federal governments all partaking in big ways. I find it interesting that to be GREEN, in a lot of cases, you have to take something used and find a new use for it. It’s not about recreating the wheel, it’s about using available resources without wasting. Before GREEN was big there was RECYCLE. I remember when I first saw the RECYCLE logo on the side of a trash can on my street. It was a mixed emotion. “That’s good and what a waste of time.” I’m not a big waster or a hater on the environment, but I am like most people. I’ll recycle if it’s convenient. I’ll be green if it doesn’t cost me a lot extra.
Aren’t you so glad God is not like that. God is so GREEN it’s not even funny. Taking our dirty, disgusting sin filled lives and making something new and fresh out of it. God desires to work though us, even with all of our junk. He loves using beat up, broken down, thrown to the side souls to do great things in His kingdom. We are God’s pride and joy, His workmanship. God constantly takes the bad things of our lives and makes them good. God is greener than Al Gore ever dreamed of being.
