1. Understand that God is always there

Hebrews 13:5,6
5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. 6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

Isaiah 43:2
2When you go through deep waters and great trouble, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown! When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up—the flames will not consume you.

2. Know where to find His Presence

John 14:15-17
15 If ye love me, keep my commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

God is always there and He abides in you.
Spend time with God and His Presence will invade your life.

Don’t get caught “engaging” the people, lead them.

As worship leaders and creatives we get sucked into the environments, elements and program of the services we participate in every week.  Our heart has to be consistently pointing toward Jesus Christ.  Celebrating His goodness and His mercies that are new everyday.  We can not afford to get caught focusing/pointing people toward the melody, riff or environmental elements.  We MUST lead worship, not engage it.  We MUST lead people to the foot of the cross, to the threshold of His presence, to where His voice is heard and His heart becomes ours.

You can’t get anything out of something you don’t put anything into.

If you want to see God do amazing things while you lead worship on stage….then worship off stage. Spend time with God in prayer, reading scripture and talking about His goodness to others.

As a worship leader you have more influence with your band/vox than the crowd you lead.  Teach, train, disciple and coach worship with your team.  It’s hard to lead the hundreds in front of you if the 6 behind you aren’t worshiping.

Shhhhhh.  Listen.  Can you hear it?  God is trying to talk to you, the Holy Spirit is whispering.  Take some time before, during and after the next set you lead and listen.  As worship leaders we are around LOUD stuff all the time, give God a chance to lead you as you lead others.

You are not in charge. Follow your pastor, listen to your pastor, be loyal to your pastor, and lead the direction your pastor points.

Pray.

Worship leader: STOP singing songs and START teaching/leading worship. You have a microphone, use it.  If your pastor trust you to lead a song, he trust you to lead worship. This includes the following: utilize scripture, encourage the people to give all, share stories of God’s grace and power, and most importantly, be genuine.
