Songwriting Extravaganza – Video

March 17, 2009  |  Worship  |  No Comments

This was an awesome weekend!  God did some amazing things.  He helped us to meet our daunting goal of 10 songs in 24 hours.  We will be introducing one of the songs this Sunday night at our Prayer/Communion service.  It’s called “Thirst”. I’ll post the mp3 later.  It’s a simple chorus that was written for breathing room and flow.  More mp3’s coming soon!

Well, we are back from our 24 hour song writing retreat.  It was phenomenal.  Great food and fellowship, great get-a-way.  More details coming on the adventure.

Just wanted to let you know we did it!  We wrote 10 worship songs in 24 hours.  It was amazingly intense.

Check back for pics and videos.

Retreat

For the 1st time ever, I’m putting a monsterous effort into songwriting.  I’ve felt, for some time now, the calling on my life to write for my church but have not made time for it.  So I called a few guys and we decided to just go do it.  We are escaping to the wild town of Dora, Oklahoma.  A friend and fellow musician has offered to let us use his relatives ranch house.  From what I’ve heard it’s a cozy place with a huge living room, the house sits in the middle of 30 acres of beautiful Arkansas/Oklahoma scenery.  Myself and 4 other guys are leaving in just a few hours.

I started praying about this retreat 2 weeks ago and God really put 2 things on my heart.

  1. Focus – our goal is to write 10 songs in 24 hours, with lyrics, melodies, and chord structures.
  2. Leadership – I’ve asked each of the guys coming to have a devotion ready to share.  I really felt like God wanted the spiritual leadership to be spread out among all those involved

So at 5:30pm we leave and tomorrow at 5:30pm we come back.  24 hours, 10 songs.

Pray for us.
